Confused by state of play

I was unable to attend the second PIP assessment date I was given because I had a hospital appointment. (Holiday for the first date.) I wrote to DWP and explained this, with a copy of the hospital letter. I heard nothing so I wrote again, enclosing a copy of the original letter, plus many further dates when I would not be available because of numerous pending hospial appointments. Over a month later they rejected my claim because I hadn't given a good enough reason for missing the assessment. The letter said I could ask for this 'to be looked at again' (i.e. Mandatory Reconsideration).
So I called and asked why the reason I'd given wasn't good enough. And was put through to Paul, a decision-maker. He asked if I could provide proof that I had a hospital appointment and I explained that I had sent the hospital letter with my original letter to DWP. So he then said he would reverse that decision and send it back to the assessors for another assessment date. And said I needed to do nothing further.
Shortly afterwards I received a text saying that I had asked them to look again at my claim. Which I hadn't, as such.
So what's going on? Are they giving me another assessment date, or are they doing an MR. And if they're doing an MR, are they not just going to reject the claim again because of the missed assessment??
I'm unclear whether to do nothing and just see what happens, or write and try to obtain clarification.
What do you advise please?
