Pip appeal and Mobility offers was created by Glenn Bayliss
After being on a high DLA life time award with which I was a allowed a Car with hand controls adaptions, I have recently had to undergo a Pip claim, they have awarded me standard Pip but without mobility, the mobility car scheme are taking away my car but have offered money towards a car and also money towards the hand controls.
however I want to appeal the Pip award but what will happen to the mobility car in the mean time and if they continue to take it away will they stop the offer of money towards a new car and adaptions if I appeal, I am scared of losing the means of getting around.

Hi G

Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explains where everything is

Welcome to Benefits and Work

In case you are not aware, your real name appears to be showing in the forum, if you want to change this then follow the instructions in the following FAQ

My full name is showing, how can I stop it?

I don't know how recently you received your decision letter, but the first thing you need to do (if you haven't already) is put in for a mandatory reconsideration. this needs to be done in writing to the DWP, within one month of the Decision, to the office that dealt with your claim, have a look at our PIP MR & Appeal guide for details of the process, the PIP area also has template letters that you can use to make the request with.

www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/help-for-claimants/pip

You should contact the DWP for a copy of the assessment report if you have not already done so, I would phone them but again follow up the request in writing. Once you have the assessment report you will have a better understanding of how the DWP Decision Maker has come to their conclusions and will then be able to argue against them.

Your primary task is to show that you meet the criteria, there are many reasons you may have failed, you need to address each of these but don't get bogged down in criticising the assessment report unless you can clearly show that it is incorrect, it is a lot easier to argue the facts of the situation;

"the assessor recorded that I walked 50m, I did but they have failed to document that I had to stop every 10m for a rest due to breathlessness"

than their opinions

"based on my observations of the claimant walking I believe that they can reliably walk more than 200m.

When you have a better idea of the issues with your claim, come back to the forum and we will do our best to help.

With regards to the car - normally they are taken back within a month of the decision being made. Whether they will allow you to keep it for the time it takes for the Mandatory Reconsideration to be processed, that is something you would need to discuss with Motability. Mandatory Reconsiderations are taking about 6 weeks at the current time. If there is no change in your award and you go on to Appeal - you will not be able to keep your Motability Car.

With regard to you being offered money towards a new adapted car I cannot say what will happen if you choose to appeal - this is something you will have to raise with them before you make a choice.

Hi
I’m doing DLA to PIP transition ☹️
I have a mobility car, this was a major concern of mine too. I spoke to a real nice guy at motorbility he told me “ If I loose the mobility component of PIP that I will be able to keep the car 8 weeks after DWP decision. It allows 6 weeks for a mandatory reconsideration & hopefully a positive outcome “ They offered £250 if car was returned at the 8 week point if the MR failed.
I hope this helps seems they are getting used to us lifetime awards having problems..! Check their website loads of really good info on there.
