ESA AFTER STATE PENSION AGE was created by GONZALO
I am in the ESA support group and have received an application form which they want returned by the 29th August. I receive my first state pension payment on the 6th of September.. I have not filled in the form as my understanding was that the ESA payment ends at state pension age. I have just realized I could be wrong. Please comment.

Hi Gonzalo
When you reach State Retirement Age your ESA will cease, try putting your information into one of the online benefit calculators to see if you qualify for anything else.

Hi Gonzalo
You have not said what the application form is for?
You may be eligible to claim pension credit in the future, for instance because you are coming up to pension age or you are about to have a drop in income, you can make a claim up to four months in advance of this change. Your claim can also be backdated for up to 3 months if you meet the qualifying conditions throughout that period.

Thank you Gary. Apologies. The form was to apply to continue in the ESA income based support group. The form was received early August. I informed the DWP immediately that I would receive the state pension on the 6th September. Today I received a reminder letter to say the ESA form must be returned by 29th August. Can I assume this is an administrative error?
I also received a letter saying my ESA payment would be reduced on September 3rd due to my age. Thank you again

Hi Gonzalo
I would contact ESA enquiry line 0800 169 0310 to check but I would assume it is an automated error. I woulld at the same time contact Pension Credit new claim 0800 991234, see my post below.

Hi GONZALO
Sorry forgot to mention that the Government changed the law regarding PC and mixed aged couples on the 15th May this year. If you have a partner who is younger than you then the information below about PC is incorrect. If you have a partner, PC is now based on the youngest of a couple not the eldest, so unless your partner, if you have one, is older then you will not be able to claim PC until your partner reaches PC age.
