Health assessment advisory service- ESA assessment

I called the Health assessment advisory service today to ask if they could record my home assessment next wk (it says in the letter I received that they can). They asked for my NI number, and when I'd given it to them, the man said the appointment would be cancelled as they don't have any equipment........

I know by now that they want to stop my benefits so as to force me to apply for UC (CAB told me that any cancelled appointment, unless I was in hospital, means cancelled benefits, so as to force people to apply for UC, and that DWP absolutely have the whip hand on this...) I asked if I could record it myself, in that case.
The man had to ask someone else but eventually said I could record it as long as I give them a copy.

What pitfalls might there be to this, could anyone possibly advise me, please? I imagine they'd want a copy at the time? In which case, I'd have to do a dual recording somehow?
Should it be on CD, or what will they want?
If my recording equipment looks expensive I suppose that will be wrong, too...?

This advisory services person never gives his name, incidentally, and he told me they don't record calls even though they call themselves Head Office. I find this really shocking, especially when they are supposedly part of the DWP and Government.
But should I be shocked at anything any more. ....

Many thanks

Hi Deb

We are unable to recommend any particular brand of recording equipment.

We do know of members who have purchased two single Bush recorders from Argos and attached a single speaker to each of them. As well as using a cassette to test your equipment, you need two sealed cassettes which you only open in front of the assessor so they know they have not been tampered with.

They won't accept a digital recording such as on a mobile phone.

Hi Deb,

Just to say the equipment I bought from Argos is exactly the same as described by BIS. I bought a pack of blank tapes from ebay.

Word of warning, though: I still scored zero points but won my MR and would like to think the recording helped me as the assessor still decided to mis-report the whole process.

I think I paid around £50 for the two machines, not the best quality but the chances of them being listened to are very slim. I'd recommend recording the process as once you have the machines, you can use them in future assessments.

Hope this helps,

Phrank.
