I bit the bullet last week and made the first step in my PIP application. I checked on the government website on what information I needed to supply, got myself organised and phoned them. They asked me if anyone was going to help me and I replied yes. They then proceeded to request the full contact details for people who had offered their services to me (all family members not Welfare Rights Officers). I was quite taken aback and couldn't remember their addresses and telephone numbers. Is this a new thing as we weren't asked this for my husband's application 18 months ago?

Hi Dixi

They do ask more questions when you make that first call than they did, but I've not heard of this being asked before. It didn't matter that you didn't remember their addresses and there is nowhere on the form PiP form that will be arriving in the post that asks for this. They may just have been trying to clarify that you will be getting the help you need to complete it.

Hi
I had to move from DLA to PIP still at form filling stage. I had the same experience during the initial phone call, I was asked what agency would be helping me with the process, I asked them twice as I couldn’t believe they asked that...! I said CAB but have used a head injury group as they were better suited to help.
I’m with you it’s a little intrusive and they get the heads up on any help from outside agency..!
However I have been flagged as vulnerable but cannot see how that would effect initial phone conversation.

I told them that my helpers were my children and so was surprised when they wanted their contact details. That is when my mind went blank but I did remember their names (all two of them).

My friend rang up for her son who has Down syndrome. They asked who would be assisting her with the PIP form; she replied they didn’t need to know that information as it was completely irrelevant, apparently the guy from DWP was quite pushy, but my friend stood her ground and they sent her the form. I think it’s the DWP playing mind games trying to catch people out.
