confused by letter about ESA was created by Karen
Hi, I'm currently in receipt of contributory ESA in the support group. I'm on universal credit and my ESA is paid separately. I have received a letter which states I might be entitled to income related ESA and would be entitled to extra payments, these are called premiums. This has confused me because income related ESA is part of UC, therefore wouldn't my payments be less??

I don't think you can receive the Income Related ESA as you are receiving UC unless you actually close your UC claim, you can put your information into one of the online benefit calculators to see if it would be better for you but the LCWRA (SG) rate for UC is actually more than the equivalent ESA(IR) rate.

Is there any chance that the letter is about historical payments? See

Hi Gordon, thanks for your reply. I'm really confused by the letter. There is a form for me to fill in with it, which asks for personal information from 2011 to present day, so possibly checking historical payments as I was migrated from IB to ESA. I'm just concerned that I may lose money because contribution based ESA is paid separately to my UC, and income related ESA is included in UC. I'm currently waiting for my PIP decision, they've received my assessment report and apparently have all the information they need according to a letter I received the beginning of last week, so maybe this has triggered it??

If you look at the second link that I included in my second post it explains what you have received and why.
