PIP application - request for extension

Today I called DWP to ask for two week extension on my PIP application as they invite you to do if you need it (it's due back on 17/10) and the unhelpful gentleman said there had already been a two week extension granted on it. He could not explain how that had happened when I hadn't asked for one before today, nor could he give me the precise date it was now due. I wanted him to tell me the exact date but he replied, 'I don't know - the end of the month sometime.' He then said that 'the wrong letter had been sent out with the wrong date on it'. He refused to send me a letter confirming the new date as they 'do not have a template for that.'

I am very worried about this entire call. I want more clarification, and some written evidence that I have a new date for submission. I can't help thinking I've walked into a trap. Has anyone any experience of this?

Thank you for your reply. I did get a different call handler - a really nice, polite chap who immediately informed me that the two week.extension is automatically given to many people, including me, and that there is a letter coming out to me informing me of the new date. That's all the info I needed. It really is the luck of the draw, who you get on the end of the line. Thanks again for your time.
