Hi
I have a couple of questions about the responses to ‘Questions you may be asked at a PIP medical assessment’. The questions in your guide:
What work do you normally do?
Have any adjustments been made to enable you to continue working?
Have you given up or changed work?
If I reply that I’ve had to give up work due to my health conditions and the inability of my employer to make adjustments (which is true) does this information get shared with other departments of the DWP? For example if in the future if I was to be able to take up work again and applied for help from Access to Work. Will they look at my PIP application?
Can I still work if I am awarded PIP?
Would I need to let the DWP (PIP) know if I was able to return to work?
Another question - do you get the chance to read the Health Professionals report before it goes to the decision maker to check it is accurate? And if not how do you address inaccuracies - is it only by going through Mandatory reconsideration?

You can work and claim PIP. However, if you were able to work because there had been a change in your medical condition you would need to inform the DWP because this would be a change of circumstances and would automatically trigger a reassessment of your need. It's possible for a department to see what other benefits a claimant receives.
You can ring up and request your medical appointment 48 hours after your assessment has taken place and the report should be available. It takes 6 - 10 days to arrive. You can write to the decision-maker before they make their decision if you think there are inaccuracies. It may or may not make a difference. If you were dissatisfied with the final decision you then move onto MR

They may not ask and you are under no obligation to volunteer the information but if the assessor becomes aware that you are doing voluntary work then it might disadvantage you if you have not explained how you manage to do it.

Oh, I wish I'd known that when we started this procedure - it might have made things a lot easier! We assumed we'd just got to wait until we received this decision.

Oh, I wish I'd known that when we started this procedure - it might have made things a lot easier! We assumed we'd just got to wait until we received this decision.

My son requested the assessors report as you suggested and it’s arrived today. It contains many inaccuracies and my son suffers from paranoia and wants it 100% accurate. Please can you advise me: can we ask for the inaccuracies to be corrected now (by using references to the medical reports that they had with the application) Or do we have to wait for the decision maker to make the award and then go through Mandatory Reconsideration?
