I have just received a copy of my nurses report from my medical assessment. I know this is not the final decision but I believe the decision maker tends to go with what the assessor has said ? Anyway, what I was wondering is, is it too late to send any more evidence in because she has advised that I am given 0 points for engaging with others when I suffer with severe social anxiety and I do not leave the house ever not even for family events the only time I ever leave the house as hospital appointments so I can go literally months and months and months without leaving the house when I do go to the hospital appointment my mum takes me so I at least should have been awarded the descriptor for having to have someone with me for a support. She has written that I can engage with others face-to-face unaided and I can plan and forward journey also unaided. I cannot even get to the local shops I get all my food and medication delivered I literally cannot cope with any social activities so I cannot understand why she has done this although I shouldn't be surprised reading other people's stories. Is it worth me asking my GP to write me a letter explaining how I am and sending that in now before the decision is made ? or is it too late to send in any more additional information and do I now have to wait for the decision and then possibly ? If they do a award me her suggested 11 points I am worried about Rocking the Boat just for the sake of an additional one point but it is very frustrating as I know I am genuinely entitled to that.

Hi Rebecca

I obviously haven't seen your report, or know what evidence you put in, (nor am I an assessor) but I am not surprised that you did not score any points for engaging with others, because the way you describe it you are unable to leave the house - at all and therefore you don't put yourself in the position where you have to try and engage with others. Sounds unfair I know, but you are not alone in assessors making that type of judgment. So you cannot score for something you do not try and do.

You have a small window in which you can write to the Decision Maker challenging any points in the assessors report that you disagree with. You can send any information, but it may be disregarded as they are looking at the time the report was written and the information that was available at the assessment. (But still worth giving it a go).

We were in a similar situation, and wrote our MR based on this aspect, Initially a paper based review, HP had spoken to GP regarding mobility part specifically, and it was mentioned several times in her report, so felt this aspect of award was safe.
One point off EDL, so we highlighted the evidence we had already submitted From GP and psych regarding social anxiety, and specifically gave three or four personal examples of what happened when faced with a social situation or attempting to go out.
Successful MR to EDL after approx 10 weeks, no effect on ERM.

Hello Rebecca, I was awarded 11 points for daily living at tribunal. I'm currently awaiting a reassessment having deteriorated. You are very similar to me. Whatever you decide to do, it comes with the same caveat as I was faced with. The most important one being they may reduce it to nothing. Try to get your gp and any consultant involved in your care to write how your disabilities, both mental and physical affect your daily living. I am lucky, I have a great gp and even better psychiatrist and psychologist who have all prepared detailed evidence. And i didn't have to pay a penny. If you can get this evidence before you tell.them your change in circumstance or.MR.

I wish you the very best of luck and best wishes for a positive outcome.

Thank you! Unfortunately my GP surgery said they do not issue letters under any circumstances anymore they are just far too busy! So all I can do now is wait for the decision maker and then decide whether or not to appeal or take what they give me a run for the hills it will be very frustrating knowing that I have not been awarded what I know I am entitled to but I'm so scared of being given less and also the extra waiting time and extra stress of an appeal makes me just want to take it and run. I just hope the decision maker doesn't give me even less than what the nurse has suggested! I don't know if this is a common thing or not.
