HOME ASSESSMENT was created by max151
My mum has just received and appointment for a home assessment next week. She has never had one at home before only years ago at the office. The reason we asked for home this time. Is because she never ever leaves the house. She had a severe brain injury and suffers with chronic widespread pain arthritis in her knees, severe anxiety and depression. She struggles to understand people. My question is this. Because she never leaves her bedroom. That’s where she spends all her time. Will the assessment take place in her bedroom and can the assessor force her to go downstairs? Thank you for all your help we are very scared!

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Hi Max151
The assessment will take place in her bedroom. Your mother is not the only claimant that this will have happened to on a home visit and do not worry about it. Just explain to the assessor when they arrive at the house where your mother is. They do not have the right to tell your mother to come downstairs - this is her home.

Thank you so much for your reply and advice on your site! It is invaluable. Would you mind me asking another question please? Because her brain injury was years ago. She has no up to date evidence although they are aware from previous assessments and her GP records. She has an EEG coming up soon to test her brain activity due to her seizures and falls. Am i best to chase this up so that I will have an up to date appointment coming up? She was last seen my her neurologist at the end of August. But no report was given just a check up of her medication for seizures? Thank you so much for your help

Hi Max151
You can chase up the appointment if you wish, but the fact is she has been seen very recently (August) and someone with a serious brain-injury is not going to keep going backward and forwards to the hospital if there is nothing that can be done. Hopefully, the assessor will understand that. What they are most interested in - is how does she manage her daily living as set down in the PIP criteria.

Preparing for this ESA assessment. I just phoned the GP to ask about assessors contacting them and what the GP had written back. Anyway the receptionist just said that they no longer contact your GP anymore for any details. This is because everybody has to see their doctor. I know most people have to have an assessment. But is this right that they no longer write to your GP or hospital consultant? Thank you so much
