help with PIP descision please was created by arcticwolf
Hello everyone, my son has just received his PIP decision letter (he is an adult with autism, dyspraxia, anxiety and obesity). There are things on it that he wasn't asked at the assessment and are untrue. For example it's stated that 'he takes the bus to college' when the truth is that it has been 10 years since he went to college and when he did go he was taken by me in my car due to his anxiety and hypersensitivity to noise and light he is unable to use public transport at all even if accompanied. Also that he had no problem holding a cup of water when he wasn't given a cup during the assessment. There are many other untruths but these are my main concerns. I've just received a copy of the assessment report, and it is the assessor who has put this incorrect information in the report. What advice could you give me please on the next steps. He has been awarded enhanced rate for daily living and standard for mobility until 2029 which we are happy to accept, but are worried that this incorrect information on his file may go against him in future assessments. I am his carer but not appointee so DWP won't speak to me about it over the phone. All help is greatly appreciated, I don't know if we should ask for a mandatory reconsideration and risk losing the award he has got, or if there are better ways to complain about the assessment and decision, sorry for the long post.

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Hi Ali
In ten years time - the chance of anyone reading a previous assessor's report is highly unlikely. You don't want to put in for a mandatory reconsideration because you are not challenging the award and as you have rightly pointed out you do not want anyone to look at the award (which they will do if you put in for an MR and it could be at risk).
Another option is for you to put in a complaint (though it probably won't get you anywhere).
Only you can decide what is right for you and your son, but I can tell you there are many members who have reported that the assessor's report has inaccuracies but they have done nothing about it because the award is what they wanted.

Thank you very much for the reply BIS, I won't risk doing a MR but would like to make a complaint just to put in writing that parts of the assessment are incorrect. Do you know who I can write to about it, thank you
