ESA INCOME-RELATED UNDERPAYMENTS/BACK PAYMENTS was created by Bunty123
Hi,
I hope you may be able to help me with my question. Last year, along with many other ESA claimants receiving Contribution-based ESA, I filled in an ESA3 (IBR) to check whether I had been wrongly assessed & was possibly eligible for Income-related ESA. Long story short, they found I was and issued me with the shortfall from 2014 when I transferred from IB to ESA (Support group).
My question is, as a result of the reassessment, am I now in receipt of Income-related ESA instead of Contribution-based ESA? Or am I receiving both?
My regular monthly payments are the same as they always have been - no extra since the reassessment, which surprised me as I thought being found eligible for IR ESA would have increased them, considering they had to pay the shortfall from 2014.
I'm reluctant to 'phone the DWP to ask, as I'm concerned they might start looking at my claim again & begin a review, which I'm too ill to cope with at the moment.
I'm also still waiting for the dreaded DLA transfer to PIP forms to plop onto the doormat!
I would just like to know which kind of ESA I'm receiving as I understand that those on IR are able to get help with winter fuel bills, & I think prescriptions.
Thank you.

it is possible that you qualified for ESA(IR) when you were transferred from IB but no longer do as your circumstances have changed.
Your latest Entitlement letter should explain what your payments are and whether you are receiving any ESA(IR) or only ESA(CB)
- if your letter says you are receiving the couples rate or a Disability income guarantee or money because you are severely disabled then this would mean you are receiving ESA(IR).
- If it only refers to a Personal Allowance, either the WRAG rate or the SG rate and possibly a Transitional Payment then it is likely to only be ESA(CB).
You may be able to check by putting your information into one of the online benefit calculators, see
www.gov.uk/benefits-calculators
but failing this, all you can do is ring the DWP, doing so will not trigger an assessment.
