Advice on pip review and assesmnet was created by Canada
I have filled in and sent back a pip review form and i phoned up independent assessment services to find out if I will be required to go for a medical or will a paper review be done. I was advised that my form was with a healthcare professional and if I wanted I could have had an appointment the following day. Or one in December. I opted for December. However, can you tell me if this is the correct procedure because I thought a healthcare professional would have to review my form first befour determinating whether a face to face would be needed or if they could do a paper assessment. It just seemed odd that he said I could go for a medical the next day even though my form was still with a healthcare professional, and he said as it stood at the moment i would need a face to face assessment. Thanks

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Hi Canada
Only 3% of PIP claimants have a paper-based assessment - so it is not surprising that they said you would have to have a face to face assessment. Being offered one the next day on from your phone call is short notice, but they are always trying to fill gaps. The person you spoke to is not the person dealing with your case

I thought that the procedure was that a health care professional had to look at the claim first to establish whether or not a face to face was required first befour booking an appointment. When i phoned this hadn't been done but an appointment had been set up when i was on the phone. I thoght they had to justify the reason to the dwp whether it was necessary or not to call a claiment for a face to face.

Hi Canada
The assessment providers don't have to justify anything to the DWP - it's their decision and they send out the appointments or otherwise. I said in my previous post it is unusual to be offered an appointment like that - but you didn't take it - so by the time you have your face to face your paperwork will have been read thoroughly. If they change their minds about a face to face they will contact you.
