Pips showering and bathing was created by MiriamC
My son has epilepsy .

He needs supervision whilst bathing and showering due to the risk of drowning.

I am confused.

Should I tick the yes box for question 6b- do you need help from another person to bathe?

Is supervision considered a yes for this question?

Also I am going to write about how aids could help improve safety and state that he would still need supervision at every bath. As I figure that both needing aids and supervision are worth 2 points for the descriptors. So discussing both I should definitely get 2 points for this question.

Is my thinking correct here?

I haven't started the form yet as I'm scared of doing it wrong. So I'm hoping this will be one of the easiest questions for me to start with.

Also he had a seizure in the shower November 2017 yet I do not have any proof for this.
Will just writing about this experience be okay without the proof?

Thanks in advance,
Miriam

You are correct that the question refers to assistance rather than supervision, I would mark the tick box "see below" and provide more details in the comments box or attached pages.

There is a section in our PIP Claim guide that covers Safety in these circumstances.

It does not matter that you do not have proof of the seizure, include the information anyway.

So tick yes and write that he needs supervision due to the risk of drowning?
Sorry I'm not sure about the supervision versus assistance.
Can you please help me understand?

No, just mark the box "see below" or "see attached".

“Assistance” means physical intervention by another person and does not include speech.

“Supervision” means the continuous presence of another person for the purpose of ensuring your safety.

See our PIP Claim guide for more details.

I am very confused.
I am talking about the bathing and showering question.
I thought that it would be yes he needs help . Supervision due to drowning.

So tick yes and write about drowning risks of seizures.

I am really lost here. I wrote it was question 6 b as that is what the pip2,form has it under.

However in the "benefits and work" help file question 6 is dressing.
Have we crossed wires here a out questions?

Sorry for not getting this!

There are 12 PIP activities, number four is washing and bathing, however. on the PIP2 for there are two proceeding questions, so on the form and in the guide it is labelled as question six.

Assistance would be you helping your son to wash in the shower.

Supervision would be you sitting/standing outside in case he has a seizure, any help you then provided would not come under the heading of assistance.
