Delayed PIP Assessment was created by sbsteve
I have been speaking with a friend who asked if I could contact the DWP on his behalf. He had an assessment back in March of 2019 8 months ago and since then all he has had is 2 letters saying they have all the information they need and he needs to do nothing else. His current entitlement ended at the end of October but he is still being paid his PIP award. I understand that they have to go through some cases that may be entitled to the Higher mobility component from a 2016 ruling dealing with mental health issues and travelling, which I strongly suspect my friend falls into. My self I think it is a very long wait for a decision but also I'm tempted to let sleeping dogs lie until the letter of decision does arrive. Are you aware of any other such long waits? I stress this was a normal assessment done in his home I was there.

Hi sbsteve
It is a long wait. It is unusual for PIP to continue to be paid after an end date. It could be that a decision has been made, but the paperwork hasn't been sent or that paperwork has been lost or it is simply still in progress.
I helped a friend this year who had a delay as long as your friend's and the money also continued to be paid.
At the end of the day what you do depends on the stress levels of your friend. If he wants to know - or if he needs proof of his current benefits for anything else it's worth putting in a call to find out the progress of his claim - if he's not bothered just wait for the decision letter to arrive.
Asking what's happening on his behalf will not negatively impact on his claim.
