Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Hi Saxon29
Only 3% of claimants are given paper-based assessments and this will only be done with the back up of a letter from GP, (or another medical professional), for making a compelling case why a face to face visit would be unsuitable either in a centre or at the claimant's home. Some people believe they have provided the necessary letter and are disappointed when they are still called to a face to face. This can happen because the GP's letter is not strong enough.

Hi Saxon29
I did last time, I just filled in my A1 form myself as WR said they wouldn’t come out just to tick boxes. After advice from here I ticked the no change & put that I still had .... As luck would have it I had a letter in the post from the Dr which had come from the hospital & it listed various operations & issues that I’d had. I sent that along with my form, no one was more shocked than me when I got an award without a face to face.

Hi Saxon29,
I had a paper-based assessment.
I submitted a very detailed PIP2 that included a letter from my GP, supporting my application and request for a paper-based assessment. Mu GP’s letter was brief but absolutely clear as to why a F2F would inappropriate. The letter was not enough. Nonetheless, I’m inclined to think there was a measure of goodwill from IAS. I received a letter informing me that IAS had written to my GP for further evidence. IAS sends a special FE form for a GP/ other HP involved in a claimant’s care to complete. MY GP filled it in very thoroughly and I was assessed on paper input.
In reading all the evidence, the assessor placed at least as weight on my PIP2 as the GP’s FE. I scored more points that I would if my doctor’s knowledge of my condition had been considered the primary source of information. I was awarded enhanced/enhanced for an ongoing period.
As BIS states, it’s probably impossible to get a paper-based assessment without finely detailed information from a GP/other HP with reasonably sound knowledge of how your condition affects you. Even so, it’s down to you to provide as much detail as you can muster about you limitations in such a way as to make it clear that a F2F would be inappropriate.
Good luck,
Mari
