When to add new medical evidence was created by Rose Hip
Hi,
I recently had a home visit for my DLA to PIP re-assessment. I had previously requested a more up to date doctors statement, but at the time of the interview hadn't got that. It actually took weeks to obtain and I had to pay for it, whereas before, the GP had provided it freely. I have also tried, so far without success, to contact my usual NHS physio in order to get a newer statement from him. A change in 'service provider' has made the process of contacting him, something that was once simple, into a logistical nightmare.
Therefore I was only able to provide copies of the old medical evidence, [that I had previously supplied, but which they had lost] at the time of the interview, though my condition is one that is permanent and isn't going to go away.
I've now received an acknowledgement of the receipt of this 'old' medical evidence, which I was forced to post to them in order to be within the deadline stated. They say they have enough information to make their decision.
But should I send the new GPs letter now, or would it be better to wait for the decision and use it for any subsequent appeal? If I send it now, will they include it in their deliberations, or is it too late? Thankyou.

Did you have a face to face assessment?
There is a narrow window of opportunity before a Decision is made for you to provide additional evidence to the Decision Maker.
If you did not have an interview then the assessment report has been produced on the basis of your form, the evidence attached to it and any additional information that was sourced by the assessor, this is usually a good thing.
Submitting new evidence now will likely delay any Decision as the DWP Decision Maker will have no medical knowledge and may need to remit the information back to the assessor for comment.
How different is the new medical evidence from the old? For example; does it simply support the old reports with up to date information or does it introduce new or deteriorated conditions?
Have you requested a copy of the assessment report? If not, contact the DWP office dealing with your claim. The report may give you a better idea of whether you should provide the report or not as it will show the recommendation for an award that the assessor has made.
Ultimately, it is down to you whether you submit the information or wait for the Decision.

I had a face to face home visit with the woman tapping away into her computer. That was about 3 weeks ago. That same week a letter arrived asking for the medical evidence with a deadline that only gave me a couple of weeks to obtain it. GP could not provide in time.
As well as supporting the previous evidence, the GP also details new evidence as I have since had cancer surgery etc. and he has also detailed the adaptations to my home that we've had to have done.
I have no idea if the report has been done - it's now almost a month since the visit. They indicated it would take about 6 weeks to make a decision. Do you think I could get a copy now or is that a bit premature do you think?

Hi Rose Hip
You can definitely ring up and ask for a copy of your medical assessment report. They should be loaded up on the system within 48 hours - so yours will definitely be there. It is the decision that takes six weeks.
