Filling in forms in black ink was created by WD
Hi,
It says on the forms that they must be filled in in black ink. Sorry if this sounds pedantic but I'm worried about doing anything wrong - does this mean that you have to use handwriting??? Can I overspill onto additional sheets by printing off my computer which is what I would naturally do when writing a letter? Has anyone had trouble with this?
Thanks for your help

It is perfectly OK for you to type your answers and attach them as extra pages to the form, just make sure that each page has your full name and NIN at the top and that they are numbered, we recommend "page X of Y" so that it is easy to see if pages are missing. Make sure you clearly mark on the form where your answers are and on the relevant page that you are answering question X.

I would not split your answers across the form and attached pages, do one or the other for each activity (not question), splitting it risks the second part of your answer not being read.

Attach the pages to the back of the form using a staple or make a hole in the top left corner and use a treasury tag, string or ribbon to the form. The pages need to be easily detached so that they can be scanned by the DWP.

Hi Gordon,

WD doesn’t state whether his form is for PIP or ESA. That the ESA50 is available as a PDF gives the claimant the choice of positioning extra pages to the back or positioning them throughout the form. I’ve used both methods with success in helping elderly folks with AA claims. BUT are all DWP claim forms taken apart and, like the PIP2, scanned. If so, it will affect how I deal with a future PDF.

Your advice about not splitting answers between the boxes and additional sheets of paper has proved sound over the years. I’ve never got the hang of treasury tags, though!

All best,

Mari
