Hi Albert66

If you only received the mobility component of PIP then you would loose the SDP.

To be eligible for the Severe Disability Premium you need to meet the following criteria;

- You need to be receiving or entitled to (with the SDP) Income Related ESA
- You need to be receiving a qualifying benefit such as a PIP Daily Living award (there are other benefits)
- You need to be living alone or considered to be living alone
- No one must be receiving Carers Allowance against the qualifying benefit

I do currently get income related ESA,and do live alone without a carer, and get LRM and MRC,
Was just really wanting to know how I would be affected if the worse was to happen.
Thanks.

Just thought I'd inform you that last week I got my decision on my transference from DLA to PIP ,and the decision was as you were,,was getting MRC DLA and was awarded Standard rate PIP.
just missed out on enhanced PIP,but having seen and heard about the horror stories from other claimants'then I'm grateful for getting what I did.
And obviously would like to thank B&W and the help the guides gave me. "THANKS"

Hi Albert 66

Congratulations on your PIP award. Glad you found the guides so useful. If you want to try and improve your award - you know you can put in for a mandatory reconsideration if you want to.

Are there any potential pitfalls and downside to mandatory reconsideration, let's say 'could they downgrade their original decision. "Thanks"

Hi Albert66

There are always pitfalls and you need to choose your battles carefully.

The first thing you need to do is get a copy of the assessors report. There is a small window for you to write to the Decision Maker but you will need to be quick.

Understand that the assessor is offering an opinion when they say that you can do the PIP activities, tackling these head-on is unlikely to be successful, you need to show that the basis of that opinion is founded on incorrect information, so try and refer to your evidence to undermine what they have said.

Also, try and stick to issues that lead to your scoring points, I often hear members referring to the assessors spelling, as an example, whilst it may show a lack of professionalism, raising it as an issue isn't going to help you get an award.

Make sure that you understand the criteria that you are being assessed against you can put the best case forward that is possible but you won't score points if you do not meet the PIP Descriptors.

Lastly, make sure that your letter makes it clear that you are not requesting a Mandatory Reconsideration but you reserve the right to do so once a Decision has been made.
