Home assessment due, advice please was created by melrose
Hello, I have received the letter telling me I will be having a home assessment in two weeks time. This despite my GP writing a supporting letter saying firmly that I should not have a face-to-face assessment at all and that it was unnecessary given that since my DLA (lifetime award- enhanced for both) my health has worsened. They seem to have ignored this however and as I said, a f2f is due shortly.
I am trying to look on this positively given that I had a home assessment in the past with the same company ATOS, and received a favourable report. But it is very difficult to keep my anxiety in check and given that this triggers my fibromyalgia and Chrons' Disease, its really not good. Anyway, I would really appreciate some advice on how different this f2f home assessment is likely to be from the last one, given that to me, it all seems pretty similar except they seem to have narrowed the qualifying criteria even further (which seems to be the purpose tbh). My carer will be present and the Welfare Rights Officer will also be in attendance. I am concerned about taping the assessment however as the machinery is much more expensive than I can afford.
Your advice would be very much appreciated.
Many thanks.

PIP is a fundamentally different benefit from DLA and as a result, so is the assessment.
If your GP's argument was that as you had a DLA award you should not be assessed then I am afraid this would have carried very little weight and is probably why one has been required.
Our PIP Claim guide has sections on the assessment and the questions you are likely to be asked.

Hello Gordon, thank you for your advice. My GP made the request that I not have a f2f assessment on the grounds that I also have depression and anxiety and she felt that at this time, I could not cope with the process.
