DLA to PIP, Letter extending submission time

I was due to return my forms for DLA - PIP by the 10th of January and have them ready to be posted on Monday, however yesterday, the 4th, I received a letter from DWP saying the time had been extended by 14 days. I had not asked for an extension. Is this something they do routinely or could there be a reason? maybe they are just busy? With the DWP pulling so many different tricks I am wondering if I should include a copy of the 'extension letter' in with my submission as delaying it by a few days could help me as I'm waiting for a supporting letter I wanted to submit with my forms.

Hi TrevorR

DWP are having issues with their mail, I did hear from someone that it was new software issues they were have problems with but I have not had it confirmed. I contacted DWP just before Christmas and was informed that they are extending time limits automatically due to post issues, I did ask what the issues were but they were unable to tell me. I did check as to what date they had on their system for the form to be returned by, they had added another 2 weeks as it was Christmas they also added another 2 weeks.

For peace of mind contact DWP to confirm when your forms have to be back by.
