Mistakes on AP3, when and how to contact DWP was created by harper55
Hello,
I completed my partner’s application for PIP, since their 4 year PIP award is due to end soon. They were sent the full form to complete. At present they receive EDL and EM . EM was awarded during the LEAP exercise after an MR.
The new application was assessed on paper, and we now have the PA3. The points score for Daily Living is 13, and there are a couple of scores which are too low. Regarding Mobility : there are some errors in reporting what was said during a telephone call, which would result in Basic rate mobility as opposed to Enhanced rate. And the length of award is very short, in view of my partner’s condition. The MP has suggested a review in a year to see if things have improved: they won't improve and have been at the same level for over 14 years.
Should I telephone DWP and inform them of these concerns, including the scoring for Daily Living ; write to them or wait for the decision and in the meantime prepare for an MR and Appeal ?
Thank you.

There is a small window for you to write to the Decision Maker but you will need to be quick.
Understand that the assessor is offering an opinion when they say that you can do the PIP activities, tackling these head-on is unlikely to be successful, you need to show that the basis of that opinion is founded on incorrect information, so try and refer to your evidence to undermine what they have said.
Also, try and stick to issues that lead to your scoring points, I often hear members referring to the assessors spelling, as an example, whilst it may show a lack of professionalism, raising it as an issue isn't going to help you get an award.
Lastly, make sure that you understand the criteria that your partner is being assessed against you can put the best case forward that is possible but you won't score points if you do not meet the PIP Descriptors. This is especially the case for the Going Out activity.
Lastly, make sure that your letter makes it clear that you are not requesting a Mandatory Reconsideration but you reserve the right to do so once a Decision has been made.

Thanks for the quick reply.
I cannot get out to the post for the next couple of days.
Am I right to assume that a telephone call would not be a good idea?
My partner can't use the phone, but I have signed authority to act on their behalf, which the DWP have accepted

You can call but you are relying on someone who is not concerned with the Decision making process recording your concerns accurately and in sufficient detail for the DM to understand the issue that you are raising.
