PIP Review - The dreaded brown envelope was created by dancingboy1989
Good afternoon!
I am hoping some of you wonderful people could help me, my mum has had her PIP review booklet come through the post today.
she currently receives the standard rate but previously was only 2 points away from the higher mobility rate, and I was hoping to get her the mobility higher rate as I feel having a car again would make her life easier and improve her depression of being stuck not being able to walk anywhere.
I have been reading the guide and wondered if someone could clarify something for my simple mind.
On page 63 of the PIP booklet it says:
Enhanced rate mobility
It came as an enormous shock when, in December 2012, the DWP produced their final version of
the PIP points system and revealed that the maximum distance you need to be able to walk to
qualify for enhanced rate mobility had been slashed from 50 metres to 20 metres. There had been
no reference to this in previous - obscurely worded - drafts of the descriptors.
Bear in mind though that if you score points for ‘Planning and following journeys’ you can add these
to any points you score for the ‘Moving around’ activity. Nonetheless, there’s no doubt that

hundreds of thousands of people who qualify, or would in the future have qualified, for higher rate
mobility DLA will now either get only the standard rate of PIP or will not get an award at all.
Does this mean she has to be able to walk 20 meters to qualify for the mobility car rate? or can she still if she walks less than 20 meters?
Any help would be amazing.

The requirement is that she cannot reliably walk more than 20m.

Hi dancingboy
Put less than 20m. If you tick the 20 to 50 it will be assumed it is somewhere in that range.

Hi dancingboy 1989
If you read our guidance on completing the PIP review form you will see that we suggest that you still write detailed information even if there has been no change. The guidance explains why.
