Pip assessment report was created by joachimk
I recently had a pip assessment just before Christmas. I telephoned the dwp and asked for a copy of the report. The lady from the dwp rang me back an hour later and she told me should would send the report, and was ringing back to tell me that the decision isn't just based on the report alone.
I recieved the report today and am finding it hard to understand it
If there is a dot in the descriptor B on 4 of the activities would that indicate standard rate care?

On the activity moving around descriptor D is highlighted. But what is written underneath is not making sense, as she said I walked I 15m to the assessment room, and I was in pain. If I had to appeal the moving around activity, could I point out what she wrote underneath, stating that I walked 15m to the assessment room but was in pain?
This was a transfer from dla to pip. I was on high rate mobility, and low rate care under dla

There is no guarantee that you will score the eight points needed for a Standard award as one of the (b) Descriptors only score one point! Have a look at page nine of our PIP Claim guide it has all of the Descriptors and the points that they score.

You can certainly use the comment if you need to appeal but you need to be aware that you are not required to walk pain free, so it is not a given that you would score higher.

Descriptor activity preparing food - descriptor b has been selected
Activity washing and bathing - descriptor b has been selected
Activity managing toilet needs - descriptor b has been selected
Activity dressing and undressing - descriptor b has been selected

On the moving around activity the last sentence she says that I walked from my front door to the car which is parked on the drive which indicates he can mobilise outside 20 to 50 metres. She said this even though at the beginning of her report she states I parked directly outside the door of the assessment centre and it was only a very short walk to the waiting room. When I was called to the assessment room I walked 15 metres to the assessment room at a slow pace and I seemed to be in pain.
Would that be something that I could point out at mandatory consideration when I get my result?I

So if you look at page nine of the guide you will be able to work out what you have scored.

Yes, you could use what has been written in the report n an MR but you need to distinguish between what the assessor has said you have done and their opinion on how far you can walk, the two are not the same. You would be best served by going back to your form and the evidence you sent in to undermine their opinion.

My doctor gave me a letter saying I had 10 gout attacks in the last 12 months also my other conditions CKD stage 4 and Diabetis type2 yet the assessor has wrote under the descriptors where b is chosen that I only had 5 gout attacks in the last 12 months lasting up to 3 weeks ,this is not the majority of the time, however he reported he has a week every month where he does have pain without a flare up. Yet at the start of the report page 6 it says I stated I only have 1 week in every month when I don't have gout somewhere. Is she also allowed to ignore the doctors letter which stated the number of times I had gout in the last 12 months and just put 5 down

Hi joachimk

There is a small window for you to write to the Decision Maker but you will need to be quick.

Understand that the assessor is offering an opinion when they say that you can do the PIP activities, tackling these head-on is unlikely to be successful, you need to show that the basis of that opinion is founded on incorrect information, so try and refer to your evidence to undermine what they have said.

Also, try and stick to issues that lead to your scoring points, I often hear members referring to the assessors spelling, as an example, whilst it may show a lack of professionalism, raising it as an issue isn't going to help you get an award.

Lastly, make sure that you understand the criteria that you are being assessed against you can put the best case forward that is possible but you won't score points if you do not meet the PIP Descriptors.

Make sure that your letter makes it clear that you are not requesting a Mandatory Reconsideration but you reserve the right to do so once a Decision has been made.
