Carehome Pip & Esa was created by Kris2fer
Hi, looking for a bit of advise please.
I am receiving PIP and contribution based ESA. I moved in to a care home which has 24Hr care (not nursing) for respite, I have been in for 28 days so I am going to inform the DWP tomorrow.
I believe that the care component will stop but I will still receive the mobility part.
I can't find any information about contribution based ESA in care homes, will I still receive all/some of it ?
In a few weeks I might be moving in to semi independent living, do I need to tell the DWP again. If so how does this effect the ESA and PIP I receive.
Thanks

Hi kris2fer
One of the questions we need to ask is who pays for the care home? if you pay the fees without funding then you will be able to keep PIP daily living component, if not then after 28 days your PIP daily living component will stop. I assume that you are in the support group of ESA.
PIP and DLA mobility components are not affected by stays in a care home. They are only affected if your stay is in hospital or a similar institution.
When you enter a Care Home (either temporarily or permanently) you can continue to receive
Employment Support Allowance Contribution Based but will loose any means tested premiums such as SDP.
Yes you need to inform DWP when you move into semi independent living as your benefit entitlement may change, I would advise you to seek advice from your local Welfare Right Unit.
