Hello there,
i am confused could someone please clarify if you can walk over 200 metres repeatedly for a couple of hours, but only be able to do that for once or at most twice a week does that qualify for eligibility for points?

With thanks.

So what can you walk on the rest of the days?

THANKS GORDON. FOR THE REST OF THE DAYS I WOULD BE MOSTLY IN BED AND GET UP TO WARM SOME FOOD, GO TO THE LOO, DO SOME HOUSEWORK AND WALK FOR VERY BRIEF PERIODS OF TIME - EG 5 MINUTES AND THEN RETURN TO BED. AND EVER WEEK OR SECOND WEEK I MAY BE ABLE TO WALK UP TO 10 MINUTES , ONCE OR TWICE IN THAT PERIOD.

Hi heartandmind

Be careful how you describe 'do some housework' - that could easily sound much bigger than I am assuming it is, from the rest of your comment. Make sure if you use that phrase at all - that you describe what you mean, or someone will assume you are more active than your fatigue allows. I'm not an assessor but it would appear from what you describe you should be assessed for restrictions in your mobility as from what you say you cannot do it reliably.

I have ME/CFS too. What you need to communicate is the consequences of activity – e.g., it takes you many times longer than a healthy person to recover from mental or physical effort. If walking means that you'll be confined to bed with pain and fatigue afterwards, or be left with too little energy for basic needs such as eating or getting to the toilet, then you shouldn't be considered reliably able to walk that distance.

It can be quite hard to explain all this – I certainly didn't have the vocabulary when I first became disabled by ME – but it helps to read up about it when you have a bit of spare energy. The ME Association has benefits guides, and there are social media groups and online forums for ME patients.
