Apologies for not updating earlier but I got distracted by something ;)

So, the Sunday assessment went ok. The assessor was business like, not unfriendly and seemed to know what she was doing, in contrast to my previous assessment. The assessment lasted about 50-55 minutes. Of note was the fact that, and this was the same at my last assessment, a lot of detail was gleaned concerning the activities around daily living whilst the mobility category was, I felt, rushed through barely scratching the surface. Whilst I can say that the assessment was ok the devil is, of course, in the detail. The detail being what she would write and recommend.

A few days later I called the DWP to ask for my report. They said it would be with me in 2-3 weeks but it arrived in three days. Currently my award is Standard living (8 points) and enhanced mobility (12 points). The 12 points for mobility was won at appeal, up from 10. Surprise surprise, but not really, the assessor had recommended 8 points for daily living and 10 points for mobility. The report was strikingly similar to the first one I'd had. She even made reference to the first one which says to me that they think they were right and the appeal outcome was wrong. She also repeatedly wrote, a lot, that I looked well, didn't look tired and didn't appear to be in pain. Subjective statements which, in my opinion, are aimed at the decision maker. As if to justify and influence.

So that was over five weeks ago and I'm still waiting for the DWP to rubber stamp her recommendations which means I'll be heading to appeal again, with my income reduced until that end.

Stay safe and take care everyone.

Hi PhilB

Hopefully they will go with your tribunal decision if your condition has not changed. You could try and pre-empt their decision by writing to the DWP and send in a copy of your tribunal decision.

There is a window for you to write to the Decision Maker before you get your decision letter, but you will need to be quick.Understand that the assessor is offering an opinion if they say that your wife can do the PIP activities, tackling these head-on is unlikely to be successful, you need to show that the basis of that opinion is founded on incorrect information, so try and refer to your evidence to undermine what they have said.

Also, try and stick to issues that lead to your scoring points, I often hear members referring to the assessors spelling, as an example, whilst it may show a lack of professionalism, raising it as an issue isn't going to help you get an award.

Lastly, make sure that you understand the criteria that you are being assessed against you can put the best case forward that is possible but you won't score points if you do not meet the PIP Descriptors. And although it might be tempting never say that the assessor is a liar.

Good luck

Gary

Thanks, although you refer to my 'wife' in your reply?

Hi PhilB

Apologise, it should have said 'you can' and not 'your wife' as I have no idea if you are married or not.

Hi,

I got frustrated with waiting so long for the verdict so decided to call the DWP on Tuesday 28th April, It took 45 minutes to get through. The call handler said that the letter had been done yesterday and that I had been awarded standard for daily living and enhanced for mobility. I was shocked, although in a good way, as the assessor's recommendation had been for 10 points mobility, standard. I got the call handler to repeat this three times as I couldn't believe it. Actually I still don't believe it and won't until the letter arrives and it's there in black and white. So I'm still waiting and still on tenterhooks. Fingers crossed.

Hi PhilB

Out of all the doom and gloom we hear on the news it is nice to have some positive news. This is really terrific news, well done and congratulations, I bet that has lifted a great weight of your shoulders, you can now sit back and relax.
