PIP Face to Face Assessment Report DLA To PIP

Just received my partners assessment report and feel quite disappointed as the scores are low on all descriptors .

Does the DWP Decision Maker use the form we filled in and the Report to reach a decision ? as points on the form were clearly ignored even though they were mentioned at the assessment.

I do not want to be critical about the assessor but some of the conclusions of how the scores were reached do not seem fair, lots of things that were talked about totally ignored . Despite using a wheelchair when outside only 10 points were given and no points for Moving around
Lots of text was clearly copied and pasted from page to page especially the part that we purchased our own wheelchair ( is it not acceptable to try and make life easier) We will of course wait for the decision then decide if we will ask for a MR

The DM should use all of the information available to them, at the very least; your partner's claim form and anything attached to it, the assessment report and any information that the assessor sourced, to make their Decision about an award.

There is a small window for you to write to the Decision Maker but you will need to be quick.

Understand that the assessor is offering an opinion when they say that you can do the PIP activities, tackling these head-on is unlikely to be successful, you need to show that the basis of that opinion is founded on incorrect information, so try and refer to your evidence to undermine what they have said.

Also, try and stick to issues that lead to your scoring points, I often hear members referring to the assessors spelling, as an example, whilst it may show a lack of professionalism, raising it as an issue isn't going to help you get an award.

Lastly, make sure that you understand the criteria that you are being assessed against you can put the best case forward that is possible but you won't score points if you do not meet the PIP Descriptors. For example; you mention them using a wheelchair, PIP does not consider this, rather you must show that your partner is unable to reliably walk outside on the majority of days.

Make sure that your letter makes it clear that you are not requesting a Mandatory Reconsideration but you reserve the right to do so once a Decision has been made.
