Hi,
Had my home assessment on Monday. I am confused I thought that safety was taken into account for PIP. The chap who did my assessment said the DWP don’t take it into account if it’s not for the majority of the day. Can any one give advice?
Thanks Julie

This is a DLA to PIP transfer.

DLA could be awarded due to a general need for care because of the claimant's safety. PIP does not have this provision, the need for safety has to be attributed to each of the PIP activities and in this context, this has to be on the majority of days.

As an example; some with Epilepsy may need supervision while they bathe. If their attacks are regular then it is likely that the DWP will award based on their safety but if the attacks are infrequent then they may not.

The DWP evaluate safety based on two factors the risk to the claimant and the severity of any harm, our experience is that awards are only made where both of these are considered to be high.

Gordon,
I don’t know what I could without this site. My condition is disabling vertigo & sicknessI have a letter from the specialist dated a few years in which they confirm this & state there is no cure for it.
I don’t get any warning when it will happen.( It happens every day & most nights) I have no control & can fall. I don’t know if this counts. I can not possibly cook or shower on my own.
Has anyone else received pip with this condition? Thanks Julie

Julie are you able to get an up to date letter from your specialist confirming you still have your conditions? DWP like recent evidence as conditions can fluctuate/ worsen etc. Its not the condition you are being assessed on but how it affects your ability to do daily tasks.

Hi Becky,
I managed to get a letter from my consultant in the post today. I will have to phone DWP on Monday for address to send it to. Thankfully my Consultant has backed me up on how my condition affects me. Do I address it to the decision maker? I don’t think the report is back with them yet. I am just so grateful for the support on this site. Julie
