Hi

This is my first post so sorry if I go on a bit.

I was on DLA for 10 years and then received my form to apply for PIP back in September 2019.

I filled in the form and returned it. Then I received a telephone call for my f2f which I had on 10th January. I received a text on 13th January saying they had received the report and I should hear within 6 weeks regarding a decision.

I rang to ask for a copy of the report which I received a couple of weeks later.

I have read through the report which I do not agree with all what the assessor has written and going through this her recommendations score me only 6 points for care and 0 points for mobility.

I am a bit confused as on the report for preparing food. She has written that it is reasonable to suggest she can prepare and cook a simple meal aided on the majority of days. But has scored me 0 points on the part that says Can prepare and cook a simple meal unaided. I am unable to cook a meal myself at all as I have a neurological disease which I am very unbalanced on my feet so my daughter does all the cooking. I did explain this but she has written as I sit at a desk at work I should be able to mobilise a hot pan across the worktop so not to carry it. This is a bit difficult as our sink is in an island in the middle of the kitchen.

Do you normally score the same points as what the assessor has recommended or does the decision maker look at this and makes their own valuation.

I should receive a decision any day if it is within the 6 weeks.

Should I write to them now or wait for the decision and if have not scored what I have expected score then highlight the reasons I believe the assessor has contradicted.

Thanks for any advice.

Hi Teenyweeny

Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explains where everything is

Welcome to Benefits and Work

You have a very small window to write to the Decision Maker before the decision comes out, and I would do so now, highlighting the inaccuracies in the report. Concentrate on the areas where you believe that you should score more highly. Doing this doesn't stop you putting in for a mandatory reconsideration if the decision does not go in your favour.

Hi

Thank you for your advice.

I sent a letter highlighting the inaccuracies in the report.

I sent this recorded delivery. Should I give them a call to make sure they have received it or should I just wait for the decision?

Thank you for all your help and advice.

Hi

Thank you for your advice.

I sent a letter highlighting the inaccuracies in the report. I did post it recorded delivery but wondered whether I should call them to make sure they received it or should I just wait until I receive the decision?

Does the decision maker usually go on the assessors report because if so I have only scored 6 points for care which I believe I should have scored at least 12 for care.

Should I just sit and wait for the decision and then if not happy with the decision apply for a medical reconsideration.

I am just confused what to do as I have no other evidence only what I have explained to them. Any advice is very appreciated and thank you for all your help.
