Offer to apply for my Pension.... was created by Mr Roy
Hello Again Folks....

I have just recieved a Letter to tell me that I can now apply for my Pension on the 30th of June. However, I am a bit concerned that if I do, will this affect my Wife's ESA and P.I.P. allowances which are ongoing for 5 Years ATM....and will it put us in danger of the dreaded " Universal Credit " as it's going to be a " Change of Circumstances "....Any advice would be helpful.....Thanks.....

Hi Mr Roy

It will not affect your PIP but may affect your wife's ESA but it would depend on what type of ESA your wife receives.

The difference is that legacy ESA was one benefit consisting of two eligibility criteria, one based on the claimant's NI Contribution history (Contribution Based ESA) and the other on their personal circumstances (Income RelatedESA). To answer your question we would need to know what type of ESA your wife receives.

Hi Mr Roy

Is it Income Related ESA (IR ESA) or Contribution Based ESA (CB ESA), the reason for asking is if it is CB ESA then you going on to SP will not affect her ESA.

Thank You Gary......

Just reading your reply there, am I right in thinking I would be better off NOT applying for my Pension until my Wife reaches 65 Years old ( or whenever date she is entitled to a Pension ) rather than actually, triggering a claim for a " Change in Circumstances ".. and possibly getting dragged into the " Universal Credit ". sinkhole......Thank You.....
