10 year light touch was created by Me SJP
Hi I have been unable to find any answers in relation to my question. From 19 September 2018 I became a pensioner in receipt of the state pension. I have been claiming enhanced daily living PIP since 2016 with an end date of October 2020. I have not had any DWP review letters therefore would I be moved to the light touch automatically as per new government guidelines to reduce unnecessary assessments. The DWP contacted me last year to say I would not be affected by the changes regarding recent court judgments even though I thought it would. My PIP end date has stayed the same with no mention of the light touch, for existing pensioners already in receipt of enhanced PIP, even though I highlighted this in my letters to the DWP. As this will undoubtably effect numerous people in my position it would be very much appreciated to have the legal position on this explained.
Many thanks
SJP

Hi Me SJP

In July 2019 PIP PENSIONERS LIGHT TOUCH REVIEW (This was from our newsletter)

Existing PIP claimants who are over pension age will now be covered by the light touch review system, meaning that they will only be assessed every ten years.

Back in May we revealed that new PIP claimants whose review would have been scheduled after they had reached State Pension age, would instead receive an ongoing award with a light touch review at 10 years.

At the time, Minister for Disabled People Justin Tomlinson said:

“This step means new claimants to PIP who reach State Pension age before their review is due won’t have one unless they tell us their needs have changed, and the next step is to bring this in for all pensioners.”

The DWP has now announced that the 10 year light touch review has been extended to existing PIP claimants above State Pension age.

The department claims that 290,000 claimants will benefit from this latest move.

As you have not heard about your review, you may find when it comes closer to it, then you will be informed that you are subject to a light touch review. It is hard to be exact as the DWP still have not said how they are doing this.
