ESA claimants and Universal Credit was created by Zinny
Family member in ESA Support group. Want to know what happens when transferred to Universal Credit. All l ever hear is about Universal Credit means having to spend 35 hours a week applying for jobs.
1.Understand will not have to supply medical information will just be moved onto it.
2.However have seen no mention of what happens to housing costs. Do you have to re-apply for housing costs or are they also just moved over?
3.When on Universal Credit what is the "regime"? Will there still be Assessments from time to time and are they the same as now? And the same people doing them?
4.Sanctions have been mentioned - what for?
5.Is anything else different to the present conditions for ESA Support claimants?
6.Lastly you can be moved onto Universal credit from ESA if you have a change of circumstance. I have seen lists of these "Change of Circumstances" but want to know if you get housing costs (i.e.service charges paid) and move to a different borough and cease to pay these charges so cancel your claim for housing costs - does that count as change of circumstance? Iif you do not know the answer - who could I ask?

You are asking about something that may not happen for many years and the process may change before then.

1. Your existing ESA award should be migrated to UC without assessment unless you are due for one anyway.

2. UC replaces Housing Benefit and it will be part of your payment.

3. UC operates in exactly the same way as ESA, you will be reassessed on a regular basis.

4. The rules are basically the same as ESA, if you are required to perform Work Related Activity and fail to do so then you can be sanctioned.

5. No

6. At the moment you can only be transferred to UC if you need to make a new claim for one f the benefits that UC replaces and you are not receiving the Severe Disability Premium.
