Changes to pension credit was created by JJ
Hi team.
I understand that now with mixed age couples if one person reaches state pension age they are now (since may 2019) unable to claim pension credit until the other person also reaches state pension age. So many couples will see themselves as having to claim universal credit instead, if applicable. Would you be able to confirm if there are any exceptions to thus new ruling ? As I have read that if a couple qualify for housing benefit, then they may still be elgible for pension credit, although I fear that I have misunderstood this. I hope you can help. Thank you.

Hi JJ
This is what the government says about the eligibility for Pension Credit and yes it says you can get it if one of you is eligible for housing benefit for people over State Benefit Age

Hi JJ
You’ll continue to get Pension Credit if you were getting it before 15 May 2019 even if your partner is under State Pension age. If your entitlement stops for any reason, for example your circumstances change, you cannot start getting it again unless you (or your partner) are eligible under the new rules.
