Hi all
I know that many people have had their cars taken away, & lost benefits ... My partner lost his daily living Feb 1, I lost mine on March 1, can't wait to see what DWP have planned for us for April 1. However, it's not all bad news, I applied for a concessionary pass online 4 weeks ago for him & it came in the post today!!!! Neither of us have been able to drive due to illness so a car was never an option, & although I could've put in for a travel pass previously I never did but decided to go for it after much thought. So if you do get mobility & can manage to make it to a bus stop, then I'd definitely advise you to do so. He didn't have to go for a medical or anything, I just sent a copy of his award letter off, & medical evidence. Although I still have to pay but I think I'm more excited than he is

Hi Bud, once you learn the bus routes and bus numbers it gets even easier. I've been using my bus pass daily and on the days where it's rainy the extra money Ive saved in petrol goes on taxis and I get the luxury of the driver folding my walker and putting it in the boot, no more faffing with that for me.
I understand a lot of people see the car as a lifeline but there are ways around it and I think its important to have a back up plan rather than allow DWP to play with your mental health and have the thought of losing a car looming over your head every time you have to renew.

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Hi Becky

We've been getting taxi's too, but it can work out expensive if you have loads of appointments. I've discovered that he can travel all over England on it! On a weekend I can buy an all day ticket for £2.00 when I accompany him (which is always) as he has the concessionary pass. He's got it for almost 3 years, I imagined that it would just be for a year then apply again.
