Hi I need some advice My friend who has mental health problems just received his PIP score of zero and a phone call from the nurse who carried out his assessment who told him that because he is physically able to do things like carry a backpack (he is homeless and lives in the woods so has to carry his hammock and shelter etc ) She could not award him PIP but she has got his ESA raised to a higher amount He is happy with this and doesn't feel he should continue to apply for the PIP as he can physically do things and this benefit is not meant for him I feel he is wrong I think at a tribunal he will be fairly assessed by a Judge and possibly a doctor and would get a PIP award Depressed,He can't sleep at night, can't wake up in the morning. He has constant voices in his head He is an alcoholic although he is not drinking right now He suffers from sciatica and has frequent headaches and stomach issues Does anyone have any experiences of receiving PIP with mental health problems ? What advice would you give him ? Any help would be great as I need to inspire him not to give up What do you think ? Thanks for listening
You mention a number of conditions but PIP is awarded by a consideration of the limitations that result from those conditions and without an understanding of these its impossible to comment.
Have a look at our PIP Claim guide for more information.
