IR ESA was created by Diddles1971
Hi- could I please check that there are no amounts (premiums) included for having a dependent child in IR ESA calculations and also that child tax credits are not counted towards income in calculations for this? Thank you in advance!

Hi Diddles
ESA is paid at different rates depending on your circumstances. The level of ESA you receive (whether 'new style' contributory or income-related) may also be determined by whether you are in the 'assessment phase' or the 'main phase' of your claim. If you have children and you were not in receipt of child tax credits then you used to be able to claim legacy benefits such as income support but this has now all gone or is going depending on your circumstances.
You can put your information into one of the online benefit calculators.

Thank you Gary. It's old style ESA- my husband and I are both in the support group and get a disability premium. I just wondered if the tax credits I get for my daughter were supposed to be included in their income calculations. I had my summary due to benefit increases come through and had never noticed before that nothing is mentioned in the ESA calculations of my daughter.
Thank you again for your help- sorry my brain is not working well today and my daughter has just announced to me she's dropping out of college .
More stuff to sort out.
Thank you again.

I would expect the Tax Credits to be treated as income in regard to the Income Related ESA that you appear to be receiving, have you declared it to the DWP?
