Will phone call to DWP trigger PIP review early?

Hi Benefits and Work
My PIP award letter states "you'll be sent a letter around 14 weeks before your award ends. This letter will explain how to claim again if you want to". Will this be the AR1 form?
My PIP award end date means that this letter should arrive in about 3 weeks.
If I ring the DWP tomorrow for a more exact time frame so that I have enough time to arrange a CAB appointment to get help filling in the form, will the phone call itself be treated as a request for an AR1 form - thereby starting the review/renewal process early, something I really don't want.
Hope you can help.

The letter implies that this will be a renewal and not a reassessment so you will receive another PIP2 to complete and should treat this a new claim and supply evidence as you can even if you have already sent the information.

You may struggle to get help from the CAB most offices are now only providing telephone support.

I would start the process now, there are already delays in the system and none of the announcements in the last few days is likely to reduce the times.

Unless he DWP takes action to extend your existing award then it will end as currently scheduled to.

Thank you, Gordon, for your prompt reply and for clearing up my confusion between PIP renewal and review.

Could you please clarify: If I stick to my original plan and ring the DWP to ask exactly when the PIP renewal letter is due, will this trigger the renewal process and the arrival of the PIP2 form earlier than if I had just waited for the DWP to send out the PIP renewal letter?

My recommendation is that you contact the DWP now and start the renewal process, there are already delays in the process and even though they are looking to do telephone assessments and Paper Based Reviews we have to expect that the delays in the assessment and Decision processes are only likely to extend.

If no action is taken by the DWP or the Government your current award will end on the current End Date and you will not receive and further PIP payments, the only way that you might avoid this is to get things moving now.

Hi Gordon,

Please could you explain what the difference is between a renewal PIP assessment and a re-assessment (PIP). Might be a stupid question, but is it not the same thing.

Regards.

Mr F

In simple terms, a reassessment is done using the AR1 Review form and the assessor should refer back to the previous assessment report and the form and evidence supplied by the claimant.

A renewal is done using a new PIP2 and the evidence attached, we would not expect the assessor to refer back to any of the previous documents.

Awards of less than two years, some two year ones and some awards that are the result of a Tribunal are subject to a renewal, all other Fixed Term awards should be a reassessment, we are still waiting to see what a Light Touch review will consist of for an On-Going award.
