Is universal credit changing during the crisis

Hi Team
Hope everyone is ok & managing to stay well during this difficult time.....
My query is on universal credit. The government has announced help for those self employed who can no longer work, but this will not materialise until June so many will be trying to claim UC in the interim. Does this mean that for them other family income will not be taken into account? (for example if their partner can still work or benefits from the furlough scheme) Otherwise it may be pointless them joining the huge queue as they would still not be on a low enough income. This is not something that I have seen addressed yet. I was wondering if UC rulings are going to be relaxed for this new need & force .

I'm afraid the basic rules for UC remain unchanged and I have no expectation that they will be modified, so any UC claim will be based on your household income, that is you and your partner.

Thank you Gordon
It's a shame that they are not making this clear to people. Becayse for some people it may take many hours of enquiry for nothing at the end of it.

Ah. It seems they heard us. The Chancellor has now announced new help for the self employed. A special scheme similar to furlough which pays 80% of earnings. This will not roll out till June & those involved have to file a tax return for 2018/2019 before 23rd April. Apparently the HMRC will track you down if you are eligible & be in touch in due course . I know this info may not be relevant for those who are with limited capacity but there may be for some people's partners or friends.
Stay safe everyone.

Hi JJ

Claim a grant through the coronavirus (COVID-19) Self-employment Income Support Scheme

This scheme will allow you to claim a taxable grant worth 80% of your trading profits up to a maximum of £2,500 per month for the next 3 months. This may be extended if needed. Check out the Gov website for more details.
