Is honesty the best policy? was created by ELEANOR
I was assessed for PIP four years ago and awarded it. The assessor recommended that I not be reassessed for five years so I was not due to be assessed till 2021. The assessor was really nice. She asked if I needed to sit on a stool to have a shower. I said I didn't. She asked if I needed help to dress. I said I didn't. When I received notification of the award I had been given points because I needed to sit on a stool to use the shower and I needed help to dress. I didn't contact the DWP because I didn't want to get the assessor into trouble. I recently wrote to them telling them I no longer needed to sit on a stool to shower nor did I need help to dress. They have now sent me a form to complete. I expect I will have to have an assessment. My husband told me I shouldn't have contacted them. I am concerned that I will now be reassessed and how that will happen. I have ME/CFS and there are no services in my health board. The DWP no longer accepts evidence from GPs. I have seen a consultant privately three times but have not seen him for a number of years. Do you know how assessments are being carried out at present?

Hi irisheyes

You need to be honest with yourself when completing your renewal form.

There will be no reviews or reassessments of benefits for three months from Tuesday 24 March. The suspension covers all benefits and does not depend on you having been diagnosed with coronavirus or having to self-isolate.

Where an assessment has already taken place for PIP, the decision making process will continue.

If an assessment has been scheduled, the assessment provider should contact you to explain whether a paper or telephone assessment will take place.

Where awards of benefits are due to expire, the DWP will be extending end-dates so that your award continues at its current rate.

I am always honest when completing forms. In this case it was the assessor who was dishonest but her heart was in the right place. I should have waited until next year when the assessment was due.

Hi Irisheyes

It is wrong to say that the DWP no long accepts evidence from GPs - they do. They just don't want a repeat of information that is already on file.
