You will continue to receive NI Credits which count towards a State Pension as long as you are considered to still have Limited Capability for Work, you will have LCW from your ESA claim, an obvious thing that will stop you having LCW would be your starting work. You may need to claim the NI Credits.

If you exceed the £16,000 then you are no longer eligible for Income Related ESA and any reclaim for benefits will be treated as a new claim and as you will have no entitlement to the Severe Disability Premium, you will only be able to make a claim for Universal Credit.

Thanks Gordon, so does that mean that the DWP will terminate the claim, or does the claimant terminate the claim?

The DWP will close the claim, you do not need to take any action other than informing them that your assets and savings have exceeded the £16,000 limit.
