Hi I have been awarded pip & would like to claim for ESA - however I cannot contact the DWP the phone no I call just cuts me off every time after telling which option to press (either 1 or 2, I have tried both with no success) I have a severe spinal problem for which my GP has given me a fit note backdated 3 months and for the next coming 3 months. I know this is a terrible time & the DWP are under tremendous pressure, but I just wondered if I'm doing the right thing, there guidelines say ESA can only now be applied for over the phone. Many thanks
I assume you are trying to claim New Style ESA and you are phoning 0800 328 5644 (choose option 2).
There is a report on RightsNet, the Welfare Rights forum, of long delays on the claim lines and also the phone cutting off.
There is no other phone number that you can call.
As an alternative, you can download and print a copy of the NSESA1 and then send It to your local JC+ office, this should result in a phone call to confirm your identity.
