I know we all deal with things differently and thankfully I don't suffer from stress under normal circumstances. I have just prepared a letter to send to DWP asking for a copy of the assessor's report which will go off tomorrow, signed delivery. I am not very good on the telephone due to hearing loss but in any event I would send a request in writing as suggested by the mods on here.
Due to the coronavirus and delays in getting through, I wouldn't leave it too long in asking for the report in case you want to clarify any inaccuracies that may show as there would possibly only be a short time before you receive the report and DWP making their decision. Just a thought. Thanks for your good wishes also.

After a rare decent night's sleep, I decided after reading bfoandc's & furry's posts that I'd contact DWP asap which I have just done. The report had arrived earlier this morning and I've been "promised" a copy should reach me within a few days, "any post delays permitting". I will follow this telephone request up with a letter and keep a copy for my records.

I could feel the anxiety rising just being on the phone with them. What a horrible situation to find yourself in. So half of me is now dreading the mail arriving and the other half wants to know one way or the other. I'll now read up and prepare for a MR.

Thanks furry and bfoandc for the sound advice, appreciated.

Rather than start a new thread I thought I’d update this one. I received my PIP award letter this morning, standard care (11 points) and enhanced mobility (22 points).
Time frame - August 2019 original claim form sent back. 13th April 2020 telephone assessment. 14th May 2020 PIP decision received.

Although I’m relieved that I at least received an award at all, particularly after reading so many tales of being rejected outright, I’m not 100% pleased by some of the assessor's assumptions (eg being able to hold a phone throughout the phone interview/being able to hold a tablet …neither of which are true as both are on stands, the tablet being double taped onto a table stand/owning an electric can opener of all things when I made a point in my claim/tele assessment that I rely on pre-cut frozen veg etc etc).

It seems by living on bread/biscuits and juice, from my bedside table (when bed bound) equates to being feeding myself if and when. That I was coherent/understood the questions/didn’t sound stressed or anxious and replied promptly etc to all questions when actually a few questions didn’t register properly, broke down in tears, and had to take a few minutes to calm myself down. I recorded the assessment (more due to my poor memory than anything) so I know exactly what was said and what wasn’t.

I was never asked what a “typical” day consisted of (bearing in mind the assessor acknowledged my CFS); not asked how long something took to do if attempted; never asked what difficulties I had if attempted let alone the after-effects felt. So feel a general picture of how I "live" the majority of days was not taken.

It seems that because I completed the form unaided (I have agoraphobia and totally housebound) and cannot comfortably talk to strangers on the phone hence couldn’t arrange to go to the likes of the CAB or arrange some sort of home visit for advice) then I am totally able to read and understand questions OK - despite stating in my claim form that I mentally and physically struggled the entire 4 weeks and was often confused filling it in - again a point I made during the telephone assessment.

I am relieved in one sense it’s over but part of me wonders whether I should ask for a MR on the care side of things and risk losing what I have just been awarded.

No date given it just states “for an ongoing period”. Does anyone have an idea of what this means?

regards
sia

Hi Sia

Congratulations on your PIP award. Only you can decide if you want to challenge the care component and where you think you should have been awarded more points.

Many people fail to get any additional points for something like reading, simply because they can read and write and their forms are full of complex sentences. It may take people a long time to do it, but the DWP will continue to argue they can do it.

If you want to overturn an issue like reading you would need to have the medical back-up to show that your CFS has a significant effect on your cognitive abilities for the majority of the time.

Ongoing - means that the award is in place for the next ten years.

Thank you for the congrats BIS and for the info regarding the length of award, appreciated.

I phrased it badly but yes you’re right regarding the reading/completing the claim form. I just get angry at how they appear to trivialise someone’s efforts and after-effects so lightly.

I’ll sleep on the MR aspect. There are a couple of things that have been assumed by the assessor/decision-maker, things too personal to go into on the forum.

regards
Sia
