question about specialist input for PIP was created by jasong123
Hi
i am currently writing a letter in support of a mandatory reconsideration request for PIP
my question is about the decision-makers decision it states that there is no specialist input for mental health difficulty's & not even mentioned the depression that I suffer from & receiving medication for from the doctor, all of which was put on the form (how your disability affects you)
can she totally disregard this important information what input on the form also i broke down four times during the assessment & there is no mention of this in the decision & it says that i was not anxious or withdrawn

Two things, DMs and assessors place over-reliance on a claimant having input from a specialist or consultant, also. there is an assumption that medication will have a significant positive impact on symptoms.
The reality, as we all know is that lots of people still have symptoms that affect their ability to reliably complete the PIP activities despite the medication they take and with no referral to a specialist.
Re-iterate the problems you have due to your depression. You don't have to re-write everything, in fact, it can be an advantage to refer the DM back to your claim form, if you have not already done so, give examples and make sure that you explain that you are affected on the majority of days.
As to your breaking down in the assessment, mention it in your MR request.

does the doctor & medication that i am on for depression count as input & does the fact that the DM hasn't even mentioned the depression & said that i have no mental health difficulties make the decision incomplete/unreliable as they have missed the depression out completely

Hi, I'm not an expert but they treated our daughter very similarly. She has physical problems and anxiety and depression and just like you broke down multiple times in the assessment. You can hear her on the tape we made. The guy, who seemed so pleasant on the day, still wrote in several places [it was very repeated cut'n'paste] that she coped well with the assessment. And all kinds of other stuff like 'able to hear herself called'. [There was only one other person waiting, it was dead quiet and I was getting up anyway when I heard her name], Able to lift kitchen things based on taking a tissue from a box he held out when she cried. Ignoring some of our medical evidence. And so on.
I just want to encourage you, we got no improvement at MR, but do keep on fighting according to the guidance on here, she WON Enhanced Daily Living and Enhanced Mobility at appeal. The only evil thing about the result is because they keep giving her short awards she cannot get a Motability electric scooter which would give her a lot of freedom.

Your GP and the medication count as "input" but they do not count as "specialist input", this would require you to have been referred to a specialist department.
Don't go down the route of trying to show that the Decision is unreliable, it's not going to work and could easily result in a DM who might be open to your MR request taking a more stringent view on it.

ok thanks for the reply just one more question
in the decision, it states that i report that i can follow a journey so they decided that i can plan & follow a journey this is incorrect as i didn't report that i can follow a journey on the form i said i cant & at the assessment, i said i cant & my family take me to appointments & i cant follow a journey as is causes overwhelming psychological distress
do i just refer them back to the form & tell them this is incorrect & i didn't report i could ?
