ESA support group status v UCs limited capability was created by John
I was put on the ESA support group on 9/3/20, I received a letter confirming this on or around the 25/3/20, , backdating my allowance or payment to 9/3/20. On my UC calculation on 6/4/20 I received no award for housing benefit due to the fact that I had support group payment for ESA and the backdated element of £81 and my IIDB benefit exceeded my limit for HB., I obviously highlighted in my journal that I had been put in the support group.
I called UC(call 1 ) and was informed after relaying my information and put on hold briefly that my issue would go to a decision maker. Undettered I called back 2 days later and got a different view from an advisor(call 2), who done a benefit calculation and informed me he could see adviser 1s e-mail still sitting in the decision makers in box, these calls were underpinned with journal entries and my support via t/c with a CAB worker. these calls were made on the 7/4/20 and 9/4/20....I heard nothing over the easter week-end and indeed on the 15/4/20 I received via my journal a UC50 health assessors decision to award me limited capability for work status. I called UC and got the first advisor on the line again and I told him as previously I was in the ESA support group as and from 9/3/20, he told me he did not know anything about ESA which he had told me also on the first call-(call 3), He also done a benefit calculation using my new Limited Capability for work criteria and informed me I had been granted this for 16 month, in his calculation he awarded me £75.05 back money and told me that I would start to receive this status in my UC payment in May, he also while having me on the phone sent to notes to my journal explain my new rates and payment dates. I also added to my journal that I was seeking to migrate to UC as it was more suitable for me...….I then spoke to CAB again and they kindly called ESA and asked them to inform UC of my support group status which they agreed to do but it would take 2/3 weeks to do so....I then added this to my journal and suggested we could sort this out!, I called UC again (call 4)16/4/20, and spoke with a decent sounding female advisor who allowed me to explain in full my situation.....she told me that adviser 1 and 3 had only to call ESA and confirm what I am saying and that she would e-mail him and give him the direction required to implement my ESA support group status.....I contacted CAB and gave them this update and also updated my journal with this information., So far I have spoke to 4 advisors, had my status changed from ESA support group to UCs limited capability, and had journal updates from Glasgow, Stafford and involved the time of a CAB advisor, my latest journal entry on 17/4/20 was answered by a different advisor on Monday morning20/4/20 telling me via my journal that my case had now gone to my case manager at UC...….its been a barrel of laughs so far, I am in lockdown myself and struggling to say the least, I believe this is an extremely high level of in competence or is it just that ESA and UC have no joined up thinking to the detriment of their client groups respectively. The financial differences are about £300 a month so as you can imagine its a big difference to my well-being, thanks for taking time to read this and ANY advice would be greatly appreciated/ kind regards the Johnster…..

There is no electronic connection between the ESA and UC computer systems so as you have found out any transfer has to be done manually and is reliant on the UC staff knowing what to do and unfortunately many have not received adequate training. Quite how they expect to transfer some two million ESA claimants...
Realistically you have done everything that you can and all you can do is chase the situation but you are competing with over a million newly unemployed claimants so it's unlikely to be sorted quickly.
