Universal credit claim was created by sonnyboyo
Hi, i have applied for Universal Credit 2 weeks ago after splitting up with my partner. My daughter who is 19 years of age and works has indicated she would like to come and live with me and her two brothers in our 3 bedroom house. Will her earnings of £16,000 per year have a impact on my universal credit and will i have to pay bedroom tax as i receive PIP

Hi Gina
I cannot answer the under occupancy question as I do not know the age of your boys, if your 19 year old daughter came to live with you then you would not be under occupied.
As your daughter is under 21 years of age then she would not be classed as a non dependant therefore she would not affect the housing element on your UC claim.
Once your daughter reached the age of 21 then she would be classed as a non dependant and £75.15 would be removed from your housing element each month.
PIP can have an effect on the housing element but it would depend on what components of PIP you receive, you will not be able to receive any disability premiums on UC but you may be eligible to apply for Limited Capability for Work Related Activity element (LCWRA) depending on your disabilities. www.gov.uk/government/publications/unive...-in-universal-credit

Hi Gary,
Thank you so much for your reply. My two boys are aged 14 and 11 years of age. would i be ok for my daughter to come live with me? would i have to inform Universal Credit if she did come to live with me?

Hi Gina2001
If your daughter came to live with you permanently then you would have to inform UC via your journal.
Depending on the number of bedrooms you have but as your boys are less than 16 then they would only be allocated one bedroom, therefore if you live in a three bed property then you would be affected by under occupancy charge and loose 14% of your housing element, if your daughter came to live with you then you would no longer be under occupied, as she is under 21 you would not be affected by any non dependant deduction until your daughter turned 21.
