Should I write to the DWP regarding my PIP award?

Hello All,

I watched the recent PIP webinar: thank you to B&W.

I have been in receipt of ESA (I’m in the Support Group) for over 5 years.

I suffer from severe depression and anxiety and there have been various suicide attempts and hospitalisations in the past.

I have also been receiving PIP since 2018 and in February this year submitted my PIP award renewal application documents. These were received by the DWP (guaranteed delivery and signed for) on 2 March 2020 last.

I have heard nothing from the DWP to date.

My current PIP award expired on 14 May 2020 last.

I have called DWP several times but have been unable to talk with anyone regarding the status of my claim.

Is it worth writing to the DWP (guaranteed delivery and signed for) next week (w/c Monday 25 May) in order to request a response regarding the status of my claim, or do you feel it would be better for me to wait until I am contacted by the DWP / ATOS / whoever?

Best regards to everyone and stay safe!

Nansen.

You say that you have been "unable to talk with anyone regarding the status of my claim", does this mean that have managed to speak to anybody or that the people you spoke to did not know what was going on?

Your PIP award should have automatically been extended by six months by the DWP but there have been problems with this being done where the claimant had what is called a "short" award of two years or less, however, this was cleared up last week by the responsible Minister and there should now be no issue with this being done.

So, I would check back with the PIP team to make sure that the extension has now occurred.

As you renewal started before March of this year the Assessment Provider for your postcode should wither; be contacting you to arrange a telephone assessment or doing a Paper Based Review using the papers that they already have. You can try ringing IAS or Capita as appropriate for an update.
