50% car tax reduction was created by Kerry06
Hello wonder if anyone can help my pip expired on the 25th April , I returned the forms November and received a text 9th January to say they had got them but nothing since .
I have tried to phone before the lockdown and kept getting cut off after spending up to 2 hours on hold then I’ve tried since the lockdown and it says awards are extended for 6 months on an answer machine.
I have just taxed my car for the first time on Tuesday which I done online and paid in full and then I seen that I could get 50% off as I get pip.
I have looked online for a number for dvla and can’t find one, then tried to use the online chat on dvla and I couldn’t as they are only answering calls to key worker?
Has anyone else dealt with this recently ?
Thanks
Kerry

Hi Kerry06
I have not dealt with DVLA since covid-19, have you tried this site www.gov.uk/contact-the-dvla, you can email them if you are not able to get through by phone.
I have tried web chat and it is not working like you said only for key workers.
I did find some the following website useful www.disabledmotoring.org/motoring/road-tax-exemption and towards the bottom of the page there are some DVLA phone numbers, but not checked if they are working.

Hi kerry,
I may be wrong but i think you can only claim 50% off if you have more than 6 months left of your pip claim i.e. date of award ending.
Regards
Tracey

Hi traceytracey
I have had a good look around the web but cannot find any details about having to have 6 months left on your PIP claim: www.gov.uk/financial-help-disabled/vehicles-and-transport
Vehicle tax reduction
Eligibility
You can get a 50% reduction in vehicle tax if you get the PIP standard rate mobility component.
The vehicle should be registered in the disabled person’s name or their nominated driver’s name.
You cannot get a reduction for getting the DLA lower rate mobility component.
How to claim
You must include the following with your application:
a letter or statement from the Department for Work and Pensions that shows your PIP rate and the dates you’re getting it
the vehicle log book (V5C)
a V10 form
an original MOT or GVT certificate (if your vehicle needs one)
a cheque or payable order (made out to ‘DVLA, Swansea’) for 50% of the full rate of car tax for the vehicle
an insurance certificate or cover note (if you live in Northern Ireland)
Do not send your PIP assessment or any other medical information with your application.
If you’ve just bought the vehicle and it’s not registered in your name yet, you’ll need to complete a V62 form and include the green ‘new keeper’ slip from the log book with your application.
Send the documents to:
