adjust my universal credit was created by sonnyboyo
i have applied for Universal Credit and i am due a payment in a few days time, however my journal message says that because i claim Employment and Support Allowance it is going to effect how much i am going to receive. It says i can continue to claim that benefit but we will adjust your Universal Credit payment. They are going to take off (deductions) £495 and i will receive a payment of only £434 per month for me and my two young children. Do they pay my rent? what can i do

Hi Gina2001
Yes ESA is taken into account when you apply for UC. UC does have a housing element which you should have filled out when you applied for UC.
Check on the payment tab how much you will receive, it should give you a breakdown of how much you should receive such as, personal allowance, children, housing element less any deductions such as ESA, payment in advance, non dep deductions.
Gary
Note that if you receive tax credits this will stop when you receive UC.

Your current Contribution Based ESA and New Style ESA are effectively the same, there is no advantage to switching even if you can.
You could not claim NS ESA without first closing your current ESA claim and would then have to re-meet the Contribution Conditions from scratch which you would not be able to do if you have been claiming ESA for more than a couple of years.
