Hi.New member today. Could someone point me in right direction on page to prepare for a call this thursday(on received letter yesterday).
My daughter is a severe brittle asthmatic who used a nebulizer each day for breathing.
I'm down as her apointee as she received dla when was younger and it's just been kept that way. 2 years ago the award stopped and took to a tribunal who then awarded her lowest mobility. It's due to renew claim so this is the call on Thursday . My daughter doesn't want to speak to them as she's very depressed having being shielding for 2 months (she doesn't get out much anyhow but with covid no one can come visit).she tried to commit suicide last year and cried at tribunal as was just awful experience even though they had letters from her local doctor and hospital doctor stating she can't work.. Will it go against her if I only speak to the person in the phone?sorry for long post. Thank you .

Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explains where everything is

Welcome to Benefits and Work

Are information on assessments is included in our PIP Claim guide, see

www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/help-for-claimants/pip#claims

Who is being called for the assessment, you, your daughter or both or does she live with you?

If she lives with you have you considered how you and she will access the call?

Even though you are her appointee it does not give you an automatic right to speak on her behalf and you need to be prepared for the assessor to want to speak directly to her, however, if your daughter is non-responsive or her answers are not reflective of her limitations then you should be allowed to speak. If it is a problem, remind the assessor that you are her appointee and their own guidance covers these situations.

Hi Mags

As Gordon says being an appointee doesn't give you an automatic right. But if you're the person answering the phone you have the opportunity to explain. It honestly depends on the sympathy of the assessor and I'm afraid it's the luck of the draw. However, if your daughter is unable to speak to them, you should be given the opportunity to speak. You may need to explain to your daughter that the assessor is likely to want her to confirm her name and date of birth if nothing else.
